What is the latest version? 2.0.1 or 3.0? I know that the version 3.0 was published in the year 2008. But here, they say the latest version is 2.0.1. It is very confused.

I find it pretty non-intuitive. Can’t select things. Can’t hide or delete thing. Help keeps referring to handles which don’t exist. “Use the right button” what?! Right mouse button? Right pallet button? WHAT right button?! Help file was an afterthought, clearly.

I’ve been running version 3.0 ever since it came out but for the past 11 years I’ve been using it successfully on a Mac via Parallels. While there have been some problems (eg the notes not moving while editing) overall it’s been successful. However Parallels has effectively stopped working with some of my older Windows programs and is there any Mac equivalent to Personal Composer that will read my thousands of *.pc files?

I have been using Personal Composer very happily since 1995. It does
everything I need it to do (and probably more besides). My current version
of the programme (I'm afraid I can't remember how long I've had it) is 1.8,
44 staves, which I run in Windows XP. Again Windows XP does everything I
want, except it no longer accepts upgrades from Google, and I am unable to
log into various web sites to which I require access. I have been advised
that I should install Windows 7, but I'm told that my current version of Personal
Composer won't run in Windows 7. Is that really the case, and if so what
would be the nearest current version of Personal Composer which I would
need?

Would files created using Personal Composer 1.8 still be useable in a
Windows 7 compatible version of Personal Composer?

I have received since this reply from an English web address: please could you comment:

I was advised that this email had been sent to all registered users.

Dear Personal Composer User,

All things must eventually come to an end. Now it is time to turn out
the lights and close the door on Personal Composer. Sales have
diminished to the point that the company is no longer profitable. The
future viability of the software is dependent on the whims of
Microsoft, and the likelihood that web-based businesses will eventually
be required to collect sales tax for thousands of government entities
are two real concerns. As my age approaches 90 years, I feel it is time
to pack it in. I hope you will not begrudge me a few years of retirement.

At this time, a sale of the company is not being sought.

We will remain open for sales and support until 30 November, 2014. After
that date, we will be available to support users of Version 3 programs
who obtained their programs within the last year, so that each user will
receive any necessary support for at least a full year after purchasing
or upgrading to V3..

The web site and the toll-free telephone line will be closed on 30
November.

I thank you for becoming a Personal Composer user. I hope you have
enjoyed using the program, and have found our Help desk friendly and
effective. Over the years many users have become good friends, and I
will miss them. I wish all of you well.

We will maintain our email address, *[email protected]*, for at
least another year.

Norman James

Your advice will be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
ROBIN JACKSON

Dear Robin,
I'm running Personal Composer 2 (44 stave version) and 3 (Pro, 44 stave version) on Windows 7 64 bit. I also have my old Personal Composer 1 (44 stave version) installation floppy.
I've just installed Personal Composer 2 onto Windows 8, no problems.
However I only have a Personal Composer 3 upgrade disk, and this won't install at all.
Since the bulk of my pc files were created using Personal Composer 3, I'm up the creek without a paddle unless I can get hold of a Personal Composer 3 installation disk. I have written to Norman at the address you have advised with fingers crossed.
